His commitment to his craft and unwavering work ethic are sure to bring him success. So, let’s get to know 2kSantana a little more and discover what makes him the exceptional artist that he is.
How did you first get interested in making music, and when did you realize that it was something you wanted to pursue professionally?
I’ve always been interested in music and I always wanted to pursue it since I was little. I remember just being a baby listening to 50 Cent n shit so I’ve always had a love for music plus I feel like I have a good voice for it.
Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they impacted your music?
Chief Keef, Future, most definitely Wayne and Carti. Chief Keef and Playboi Carti really showed me anyone could do this shit without even really trying and say whatever on a hard ass beat and that shit will still sound crazy
Can you describe your creative process when you’re writing and producing a new song?
Not really much of a process, I usually smoke before recording and I just punch in. I’ve only written 2 or 3 of my songs the rest are just off of my head.
How do you balance maintaining your unique sound while also evolving and experimenting with new styles?
Every tape or album I try to change my sound so I try to evolve like my unreleased shit doesn’t sound like anything off of Heaven Sent. I’ve already given them a taste with my single “Bodeine Brazy”
Your debut album “Heaven Sent” has gained traction in the underground music community. What was your inspiration behind the album, and Can you tell us more about the creative process behind the album and the themes that you explore in the songs?
There was really no inspiration I was just recording songs in my room off of BandLab but as I started to get better and better with my craft I wanted to show my supporters that what I’m making was Heaven Sent meaning the music I was creating at the time was some new wave typa shit. I really feel like I rushed that album tho because I started the album back in 2020 during Covid and I just felt like I had to drop it, I didn’t anticipate making an album but as I started putting songs together it just all went well.
Can you walk us through your experience growing up in (your area), and how has it influenced your music and style?
Nothing really out here, every artist out here either tries to be something they not or try to sound like someone else. All the fire artists are in Phoenix which is 2 hours away from where I am but I just feel like the music I was listening to was what inspired my music and style. No one out here makes music how I do or dress like me and hopefully, it stays that way.
What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an up-and-coming artist, and how have you overcome them?
Just haters but everyone has haters, really I just be ignoring that shit I don’t pay attention to it even if someone tells me some hating shit to me I’m not gonna give a fuck because no one can do this shit like how I do it
Your music often explores themes of struggle, pain, and overcoming adversity. Can you talk a little bit about why these themes are important to you, and how they come through in your music?
It’s important because that’s what music is, it’s really based on what the artist is going through or holding in on the inside. I lost my momma at 13 years old and my high school best friend a week after my 19th birthday so that’s where most of my pain comes from plus all the other shit I’ve been through but really I’m tryna get off the sad shit and get back on my turnt shit like my first tape Oshi World which was dedicated to my friend Oshi Shwan.
When you’re not making music, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Getting Geeked like Steve Urkle and shopping, I’m really finna start my own clothing brand I just don’t have a name yet.
What is your favorite song that you’ve written so far, and why?
I don’t write but it would either be Bodeine Brazy or Ready off of Heaven Sent everything I was saying in Ready was really happening in my life.
What are your short-term and long-term goals as an artist, and what steps are you taking to achieve them?
Just to have a big name for myself and put my state on because I don’t think we got 1 big-ass artist from Arizona at least to my knowledge. But I don’t wanna be rapping 5–10 years from now I really wanna hop on my fashion shit because that’s another thing I have love for.
Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or collaborations that you have in the works?
I got my EP dropping on 05/28/23 called “B4 REVIVAL” which leads me to what I’m working on, my next tape called “REVIVAL” has no features on there just all me. I wanna drop before the summer ends but idk maybe earlier
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting out in the industry?
Don’t stop, just focus on yourself and the goal
Finally, what message do you hope to send to your fans through your music?
Don’t always focus on the bad shit in life when you’re going through tuff times you really just gotta pick yourself up. your gonna have your ups and downs that’s what life is.
