Oni is a Hawaiian man raised with Hawaiian values born and raised in Killeen Texas. The enigmatic figure has been making himself recognizable in his area with tracks like “ Circles”, “ You My”, and “ RainKid “. I got some great info from Oni and excited to learn and hear more from him in the near future. Let’s discover the story of a rising star set to conquer the world of music below!

When did you start making music?

I started making music when I was 13 or 14 in 2019. I was making some TRASH melodic freestyle songs using Voloco and my stage name was “PIGME” named after my YouTube channel where I made commentary videos.

First song.

I soon transitioned into more troll rap or meme rap converting my name to “Bobby Bad Songs” in which I made aggressive screamo rap with… we’ll say odd subjects.

I began to transition into more serious screamo rap and less comedic subjects. I eventually dropped the name Bobby Bad Songs. I also began making melodic music again, this time with better quality. This is when I started going by who is Oni, I wanted my name to be real, genuine, and true to who I am, I wanted to take music seriously. I kept improving for a year and switched to fl studio and really became obsessed with improving my sound. I became really good at making the sounds I liked.

(FIRST TRANSITION OUT OF SCREAMO)

(“PERFECTION” PERIOD)

This was a weird period though, I quit making music altogether for months because I didn’t like the emo melodic style I had any more, I perfected a genre that didn’t want to make. I never really wanted to be a rapper, so I decided to stop making it in exchange for indie, or alternative music. It was a desire for me to make Midwest Emo, but I opted for pop and bedroom pop as I fell in love with the genres.

I slowly morphed out of rap and began to make what I really wanted to make. I began just creating the art that I knew I wanted to hear from me and people liked it, my quality improved because I yearned for more and more and I wanted to be diverse.

Growing up what are some things you did for fun?

I would go outside a lot. I would always hang out with friends, just try and get into some stupid shit. I was always in trouble I had a motor mouth and was always acting dumb. We would raise little birdies from eggs that fell out of trees. Very much a nature child. I love fighting my brothers and shit and I listened to a lot of Rock music. We’d always explore lil tunnels and would just go around town causing havoc.

Who are some artists you grew up listening to?

My pops raised me to listen to everything, made sure I was musically diverse cause it’s a whole language, and he was big on music and the industry. I personally fell in love with Rock music for a while I was a lil emo fucker, I listened to bands like Falling in Reverse, Pierce The Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, Bring Me the Horizon, Black Veil Brides, Twenty-One Pilots, and more. But I eventually transitioned out of a lot of this and began listening to more tame bands like The Front Bottoms, Neck Deep, Panic! at the Disco, Fun., and McCafferty. I use a lot of elements of all these bands in my music today, as well as some aspects of Juice Wrld, XXXTentacion, Tame Impala, MGMT, and A WHOLE LOTTA MIDWEST EMO. I like to joke around and say I make Midwest Emo Pop.

What is the purpose driving you to make music?

I love it, I love music, I love making music, I love learning about the industry, and promotion, I love music media, concerts, parties, & shows, and I love meeting people who like my music it gives me this indescribable connection to them I feel like they know a part of me no one else could understand I feel one with my audience. I love spreading my personality and my art and emotions. I just love this shi.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

“Psychedelic Emo Pop/Rock.” Lmaooo that’s a mouth full.

My process and mixture of genres goes from Emo rap, to Emo Rock, from that to Midwest emo, and then into pop. But for every transition, I’ve mixed the elements as well as some hyper pop. I feel like I create an extremely diverse genre, I’m sure every artist says but I know my creative process so my perspective makes it seem a lot different.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Shit, BIG names!

Although I’m not big on listening to him, everyone says TylerTheCreator. I listen to “ IFHY “ and watch the music video every time I do acid though. He’s a great creative mind and I look up to him in that way. I think he’s also hella goofy and we have a lot of similarities. I feel like our music, styles, and ideas would clash really well. Our creative styles would cause a very strange, and super unique art. I love when music steps out of music and transitions into an art piece of sorts, that’s a big strong point for Tyler.

Tell us about any new songs or projects you have coming out.

I really wanna do a high-budget music video on some magical shit. I want a video in the woods with beautiful colors and lots of moving parts like an acid trip or something. I want it to have a deeper meaning I wanna be fitted up like an Angel or a fairy, on some SZA shit

I JUST RELEASED A SONG CALLED “ You.”

Anything else you want the audience to know about you?

SLITTHROAT BE THE GANG!
